 ABOUT KILMACUD ART GROUP:

The ARTschool Adult Classes are operate in a friendly, co-operative, art-group environment and have established a a strong and well regarded identity as the Kilmacud Art Group. Originally the Group came about as a natural development from community adult art classes in Kilmacud Parish Centre.  A choice of two classes is available Monday mornings or Monday evenings, spread over three terms (commencing September, January and April). The sessions are held in the same venue (the Kilmacud Parish Centre) as the Artschool children’s classes

Each year in May the two Classes hold a joint Exhibition which is attended by hundreds of people over a week-end.  Our artists cover all age groups; the youngest, currently, is under 30 and the eldest just over 80!  Coming from all walks of life, the common element among the artists is a desire to develop their interest and skills in visual art.  Some of our group take this quest more profoundly than others, but the classes/Group embraces this diversity.  The interest each artist genuinely has in the other’s approach to and progress in art, also the non-elitist atmosphere of mutual support is a key feature of the Group.  For this reason the classes also prefer to exhibit as a Group, rather than as an Annual exhibition of ‘students’ work.

The Group Director, Artist Mary Nolan, seeks to encourage, inform and facilitate each individual’s approach, setting realistic challenges that will develop confidence and satisfaction, thus encouraging further exploration.  A broad approach is taken regarding methods/mediums and visits to galleries/contemporary exhibitions/ drawing-painting outdoors/ reading as research etc. are all actively encouraged.  Consequently, over the past ten years, this Group has gone from strength to strength and our exhibitions have built up a good reputation in this area of Dublin.
